Water Heater Replacement and Installation

Same-day and next-day water heater replacement, diagnosed honestly, installed clean, priced fair. It's in our name.

Water heaters are what we are named for. When yours is leaking, rumbling or running cold and a repair no longer makes sense, Tanks Water Heaters and Plumbing replaces it, usually same day or next day, because we keep common tank sizes and parts on the truck.

We serve homes and businesses across Reno, Sparks, Spanish Springs, Sun Valley, Carson City and the rest of the Truckee Meadows. You get an honest recommendation, a price before we start, a clean install to code, and the old heater hauled away.

What's included

  • Same-day & next-day swaps
  • Tank & parts on the truck
  • Installed to code
  • Old unit hauled away

Same-day and next-day water heater replacement

A dead water heater cannot wait a week. Our trucks carry common tank sizes, fittings, valves and venting parts, so in most cases the replacement happens on the first visit or the next morning. The line is open 24 hours, including weekends and holidays.

If the heater is leaking when you call, shut off the cold water valve on top of the tank and turn the gas valve to off or pilot. We will talk you through it on the phone if you are not sure where the valves are.

What a replacement includes

A water heater swap is more than setting a new tank in the old spot. Every install we do covers:

  • Draining, disconnecting and hauling away the old heater
  • Setting the new heater and connecting the water lines, gas line and venting
  • A new temperature and pressure relief valve with a proper discharge line
  • Earthquake strapping, and an expansion tank where the system needs one
  • Checking gas connections for leaks and confirming the burner and venting draft correctly
  • Filling, testing and setting the temperature, then cleaning up the work area

Choosing the right size and type

The right heater depends on how many people live in the home, how many bathrooms run at once, and what your gas line and venting can support. A family that keeps running out of hot water may need a larger tank or a tankless unit. A smaller household may do fine with the same size it had.

We install standard tank heaters and tankless systems, and we will give you a straight answer on which one fits your home and budget. Tankless is a good upgrade for some homes and the wrong choice for others, and we will say so either way. If you are curious, our tankless page walks through the tradeoffs.

Signs it is time to replace, not repair

Water coming from the tank body, rust in the hot water, heavy sediment that no longer flushes out, and repeated repairs on an older heater all point toward replacement. Many tank heaters reach the end of their life somewhere around ten to twelve years, and the water here is hard on them. If your heater is in that range and acting up, it is worth getting an honest look before it fails on a holiday.

Installed for Reno and Sparks conditions

Reno sits around 4,500 feet. Gas water heaters are rated for elevation, and venting has to draft properly in cold weather, so we set up burners and vents for local conditions instead of treating every install the same. Most heaters here live in garages, where winter nights drop below freezing, so we also look at exposed water lines and insulation while we are there.

The minerals in the local water settle in every tank. We show you where the drain valve is and how a yearly flush keeps the new heater quieter and running longer.

Water Heater Installation: common questions

How fast can you replace a water heater?

Usually same day or next day. We keep common tank sizes and parts on the truck, so most replacements happen on the first visit or the following morning, weekends included.

How long does the installation itself take?

It depends on access, venting and whether the gas or water lines need changes. We look at the setup first and tell you the time and price before we start.

Do you haul away the old water heater?

Yes. Removing and hauling away the old heater is part of every replacement.

Can I switch to a tankless water heater when I replace my tank?

Yes, if your home is a good fit. Tankless units need the right gas supply and venting, so we check those first and give you an honest comparison of tank and tankless for your house.

Do you install commercial water heaters?

Yes. We install water heaters for restaurants, offices, retail spaces and rentals as part of our commercial plumbing work.
