What counts as a plumbing emergency

If water is going where it should not, or you have no water at all, it is worth a call any hour. Common emergency calls include:

  • A burst or split pipe, inside a wall, ceiling, garage or yard
  • A water heater leaking from the tank
  • Sewage backing up into a tub, shower or floor drain
  • A broken outdoor faucet or supply line you cannot shut off
  • A toilet or fixture supply that will not stop running
  • No water to the house

What to do before we get there

Shut off the main water valve. In most Reno and Sparks homes it is where the water line enters the house, often in the garage or near the front hose bib, and there is a second shutoff at the meter box near the street. For a leaking water heater, close the cold water valve on top of the tank and turn the gas valve to off or pilot.

Keep people and pets away from water near outlets and appliances, move what you can off wet floors, and take photos for your insurance. If you smell gas, do not use switches or phones inside: leave the house and call 911 or the gas utility from outside.

Frozen and burst pipes in Reno winters

Winter nights in the Truckee Meadows drop well below freezing. Pipes in exterior walls, garages, crawl spaces and outdoor faucets are the first to freeze, and a frozen pipe often splits without leaking until it thaws. If a faucet stops flowing on a cold morning, shut off the main before the thaw and call us.

Disconnecting garden hoses in the fall, covering outdoor faucets, and keeping garage doors closed on cold nights prevent a lot of winter calls.

Emergencies we fix, start to finish

Our trucks carry the parts for the jobs that cannot wait: pipe and fittings, valves, water heater parts and common tank sizes. That means a burst line, a failed water heater or a broken sewer line can often be repaired on the first visit instead of patched and rescheduled. When a sewer line has failed, we repair or replace the bad section rather than clearing the symptom.

24/7 Emergency Plumbing: common questions

Are you really open 24 hours?

Yes. The phone is answered 24 hours a day, every day, including weekends and holidays. Call or text (775) 997-8071.

Where is my main water shutoff?

Usually where the water line enters the house, often in the garage, a utility closet or near the front hose bib. There is also a shutoff at the meter box near the street. If you cannot find it, call us and we will help you over the phone.

What should I do if I smell gas?

Leave the house right away without using light switches or phones inside, then call 911 or your gas utility from outside. Once the utility has made it safe, we can repair or replace the gas line.

Do you handle sewer backups?

Yes. When sewage backs up because the line itself has failed, we repair the damaged sewer line or repipe the failing section so the problem ends, instead of clearing it for another week.

Do you come out on holidays and weekends?

Yes. Holidays and weekends are covered the same as weekdays.
